What we check

Visitors answer yes or no to each of these. A no counts too: it tells you before you go.

Braille, large-print or audio menu
Any menu you can use without reading standard print: braille, large print, or an audio version. Staff reading the menu out is a separate question.
Staff will describe the menu or plate on request
Lighting: not too dark, no glare
Too dim counts against a venue as much as glare does. Dark rooms are the more common problem: menus you can't read, steps and edges you can't see.
Assistance animals welcome
Answer if you had one with you, saw it stated (a sign or the website), or asked staff. Hearing, seizure-alert and psychiatric assistance dogs have the same right of entry as guide dogs, and are refused more often.
Tactile signage
Tactile or braille signage on toilet doors
Whether you can tell which door is which by touch rather than by asking.
Card terminal with raised buttons
A terminal with a physical keypad and a raised dot on the 5, rather than a flat touchscreen you cannot enter a PIN on unaided.
Staff trained to assist
Website usable with a screen reader
Menu published online
Whether the current menu is on the venue's own site at all, rather than only on a board in the window or a social media image.
Menu is not a scanned image or unreadable PDF
